Urban papercraft: Paper Robots (update 2)

The first time I talked about paperrobots it had 4 models.

The papermodels from Paper Robots are amazing: they are almost as good as a action figure.
It has joints that move freely and smoothly. There are characters with joint, and now there are 2 transformers. Yes, they transform into a truck or a jet….

Since my last post there have been some additions:

Model 5: Evil Dead´s ASH!

Model 6: Paper Robot´s BLUE STEEL 1999

Model 7: Classic SPIDER-MAN

Model 8: Black Simbiote SPIDER-MAN

And another transformer model (like Optimus Prime)
Model 9: Transforming JETFIRE

You can find the downloads of the papermodels on the site of paperrobots and find more pictures on flickr.

Urban papercraft: Phil Toyz

Wow…., what can I say, I hade the same feeling I had when I “found” Shin Tanaka
Phil is a (very) talented papercraft (and probably more then that) designer from Italy, check out his myspace page.

If been checking this incredible urban paper craft creator for a while, but I never noticed the BIG sign (thx toysrevil for pointing it out):

Phil toys

otherwise I would have written about this guy before.
The PhilToy myspace page is not very clear (there is not a lot of information).
And you can’t download the designs for G-Boy or Noise, but you can create a custom design for G-Boy is you send an email to PHIL and a template will be sent to you.

And to start your creativity: here are some designs:

do I need to say more? G-boy if phat!

There is another great design from Phil: Noise

Top 10 notation for Grumm

For a while you can download Grumm on this blog.

Grumm is a paper toy / papercraft / paper model or what ever you want to call it.
Because I’m swamped with work (started a new job) I haven’t got time to spend on Grumm and the promotion of it.

But even without that, Happy Sucks noticed Grumm:
they (??) created a Top 10 Paper Toy for Adults:

Grumm is placed at number 10, and I seem to be in good company:

  1. PP BEAR
  2. Spikey Baby
  3. Mask Hoody
  4. Mr. Robot
  5. Card Boy
  6. Brick Boy
  7. Hand Holders
  8. Big Chief
  9. Nice Bunny
  10. Grumm

Some on this list also can be found on this site

So thanx for the nice top 10 spot!

Grumm update

Grumm has now it’s own page on this blog: visit Grumm and read more about download and custom Grumm papercraft.

I’ve not been working on Grumm for I while, but I did find some time to put different files online so you can build/customize it.

Grumm The Screamer Red can be downloaded here.
Grumm The Screamer Red

And for custom Grumm designs; there is also a blank template which can be downloaded here.
Grumm Blank

Visit the Grumm page for more information and downloads.

The page needs some work, but I hope this will start some feedback about the templates and design.
So start building/customizing Grumm…

Because I’m swamped with work I haven’t got time to create a nice page. This page is more an update for people who wanted to build a Grumm, and now they can.

Papercraft prototype: Spraycan – part 4

After I cleaned up the files produced by Pepakura with Illustrator I could test the prototype.

If you look closely to the previous post about this project, you see that I don’t have a screenshot from the rounded part on top of the can. This is because I couldn’t get it to work in Google Sketchup… So I decided to make a globe in 3d, make a flat version in Pepakura and edit it in Illustrator (cut parts away I don’t need).

Here a the different parts I tested:

The tube
Spraycan WIP Tube

The can
Spraycan WIP Can

The cap
Spraycan WIP Cap

The round part of the can…
Spraycan WIP roundtop
I don’t think I will be using this part: it’s to detailed for this project. And quite difficult to make, when printed on a A4 papersheet.

The Spraycan complete

So without the curved part, this will be the look.

Papercraft prototype: Spraycan – part 3

I imported the .KMZ file made by Google Sketchup, which I made in part 2 of this series, to Pepakura designer and I wasn’t totally happy with the end result:

Spraycan - Pepakura

I contribute the in some cases strange “decisions” from Pepakura to:
– my very basic modeling skills (I have none)
– Pepakura can’t think like a human… (It just works like a machine) and makes strange decisions.
– I made the 3d model in one part.

I tried to clean up the 3d model, but I was getting nowhere. So I decided to clean up the file in Illustrator:
Spraycan - Illustrator

Time to put it all together!

Papercraft prototype: Spraycan – part 2

Time to convert the illustration from part 1 into a 3d object in Google Sketchup:

First the bottom of the can:

Created a separate cap:
